Case study
Emtidad is a functional coffee table that merges traditional Emirati khoos weaving with a sustainable, low carbon material like Dunecrete. It reimagines the Surood mat, around which Emirati families once gathered, into a contemporary design object. The core concept lies in expressing the continuity of craft through contrast, where the softness of palm weaving flows from the rigidity of Dunecrete, symbolizing the ongoing dialogue between heritage and modernity.
Crafted by Jamal Hamsho and Dana Bin Mahmood, this stunning object showcases the versatility of our beautiful material Dunecrete and gives a glimpse into the endless applications and possibilities of the material and integrating it into your designs. This piece was designed for the House of Artisans Design Competition in collaboration with Mubadala.
